This newsletter comes out at a time when we confront significant challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods of working, teaching, and living have changed.

The Walton College and the University went on lockdown two weeks ago and all classes went online. Throughout this process, I was struck by the focus and effort with which our faculty, students, and staff made the transition. This transition was facilitated by the tremendous support the College and the University leadership provided – in terms of placing the well-being of students, staff and faculty above everything else and also in terms of the numerous resources and training sessions that were put together at very short notice.

Our hearts go out to those who have been strongly impacted by this virus. Its challenges are combatted daily by those around us. Just look around and you will see examples of resilient leadership everywhere – the parents who are balancing working from home while providing quality education to their kids, the families taking care of those who are sick and much more.

Coincidentally, two features stories in this newsletter are a study in courage. Devon Palumbo, a current MBA student, was diagnosed with cancer while travelling in Latin America. She applied to the Walton MBA while undergoing chemotherapy. Today she is a first-year student, interning at Unilever. Kenny Bierman, an MBA alumnus and a US Airforce veteran, was injured in Afghanistan. His back injury made him pivot to the Walton MBA and he completed the program while in pain. We are so proud that Devon and Kenny were part of the Walton MBA. Their courage provides a strong reminder that challenges are best overcome with grit, perseverance, and support from those around us.

No matter how it evolves, the Covid-19 crisis will change our world. This will have a huge impact on the world’s economy and the way we do business. In this context, the Walton MBA is pleased to share that we have started a resource page where we post articles and information that can be of help. I hope you enjoy the content in this newsletter and stay safe.
